In February 2005 Kancho Yoshitaka Taira visited New Zealand with his wife. This visit coincided with Shihan Kevin Plaisted's 30th year of involvement in karate. Kancho Taira held karate and kobudo training seminars during his stay. See our Past Events page about Kancho Tairas visit.

Sensei Tim Herlihy receives his Yondan certificate
On 6 November 2005 Kii Kanazawa, of JKF Shito Ryu, paid Okinawa Shorin Ryu New Zealand a courtesy visit accompanied by  sensei Hiroshi Fujimoto of Goju kai. Kii shared in his kata knowledge and also took part in some kobudo training. Kii Kanazawa was 1st in kata at the 2005 Asian Karatedo Junior Championships.
