On 29 August 2004 Okinawa Shorin Ryu New Zealand (Matsubayashi Ryu) hosted a combined training seminar with Goju Ryu featuing World kata champion Tsuguo Sakumoto. Sakumoto sensei, of Ryuei Ryu, demonstrated kata and kobudo, as well, there were demonstrations from Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu and Goju Ryu.
