Karate is a cultural heritage of Okinawa. It is characterized by the importance of developing a proper spirit and valuing martial attitude. Furthermore, we will strive in providing information on a daily basis about Okinawa and its most valuable cultural asset, karate.
Together with this website, we have set a phone line where we can be contacted for matters related to karate. The number is +81-98-934-4334 from outside Okinawa and 098-934-4334 from within Okinawa.

Karate fails to convince IOC
Rugby 7's and Golf have been chosen ahead of Karate for Olympic Games inclusion
"I feel that it is a very negative message for those on the outside," World Karate  Federation chief Antonio Espinos said after the shortlist was announced. "I don't see when on the horizon we might have this possibility."
"I don't know how much more we can do, in terms of development of our sport, to convince the IOC," he said of the sport which claims to have 100 million active athletes of all ages worldwide.

WKF presentation before the IOC Executive Board
A World Karate Federation delegation presented the candidature of the WKF and Karate for the 2016 Olympic Games to the International Olympic Committee Executive Board Monday 15th June 2009
The presentation was well received by the IOC Executive Board; it covered all aspects of both the World Karate Federation and of the sport of Karate, including the added value that Karate will give to the Olympic Program and vice-versa, and also the impact that the acceptance of Karate will have on the push of the social values of Karate worldwide. Other outstanding features highlighted were the universality of the sport and the simplicity and low cost that the incorporation of Karate to the Games would suppose.
Now the IOC Executive Board will meet again in Berlin on the 13th August 2009 and will decide what 2 sports (maximum) from the 7 candidates it will propose and submit to the Copenhagen IOC Session for approval; this will take place on the 9th October 2009.
