Every year Okinawa celebrates the Shurijo Castle Festival.
This festival reflects, through re-enactments and demonstrations, the golden age of the Ryukyu Kingdom dynasties.

In November 2002 Kodokan Taira dojo was invited to demonstrate Matsubayashi Ryu karate at the Shicha-no-una (Lower courtyard area) of Shurijo castle.

Shihan Plaisted and Tim Herlihy joined with the Taira dojo team in proudly displaying kata and yakusoku kumite on two separate occasions during this historical event.
